F+W Media’s Jelly Roll Challenge 2011

Nope, this is not a competition to create the biggest or most delicious sponge cake/jam combo, though I’d love to be a judge for that if anyone is in the mood to give it a whirl. Nor is it a contest to see who can produce the best post-holiday muffin top (I’d have to be a contestant for that one…). What is it, though, is a quilt design contest to create the best and most creative use of one Jelly Roll fabric collection. If you don’t know what a Jelly Roll is, it’s a roll of fabric strips that have been laser cut and bundled in a pretty combination of colours. It’s inexpensive and all the cutting has been done for you, which is especially great for those of you who haven’t tried quilting before. And what is so excellent about this contest is that the prizes are really awesome and it’s open to Canadians. Check it out: http://www.jellyrollquilters.com/. — Ellen
